As part of the work to establish the Efficiency Index, telecoms consultancy tefficient noticed a strong correlation between the level of ICT development and the GDP per capita of a country. But whereas Korea and Estonia stand out as forerunners – with higher than expected ICT development levels in comparison to GDP – Norway stands out as relatively underdeveloped when it comes to ICT.
The graph below compares the GDP per capita with the ICT Development Index (IDI) as defined by ITU. The IDI measures ICT readiness, ICT use and ICT capability using a number of different inputs.
The trend line in the graph shows a very strong correlation between the GDP per capita and the ICT Development Index. Most countries are indeed cluttering along the trend line.
